Photo 127: Happy Birthday, Dinah! We want cake! Where’s our cake?
7 years ago (in just about an hour and a half from when I’m posting this) my life changed forever when Dinah was born. She’s kept me going for 7 years, and hopefully I’ve been doing the same. She’s become an articulate, creative, and caring little girl, a great big sister, and a joy to have around.
(If you were wondering about the post title, here’s a link to one of Dinah’s favorite songs: Seven by They Might Be Giants.)

4 more years! 4 more years! er…wait. and Photo 94
(Yeah, I know, I used the title for this lame excuse for a joke three years ago. Hopefully, again, its many many more than 4 more years.)
Today, Evan turns 4. He has survived living with his older sister and his parents for 4 rotations around the sun, and equally, I think we survived living with him as he can be a crazy-man. He’s developed a great sense of humor and is very definitely his own person distinct from the rest of us.
As part of his birthday celebration, he becomes today’s photo of the day wearing the birthday crown his sister made and eating his chosen breakfast of coffeecake.
Here’s some bonus images from his birthday gathering yesterday, including that special time in a boys life which includes spending time with his robot and his dad.

This picture is as much fun for the story as it is for the image (which I like.)
Today I was eating dinner with some colleagues at Javier’s in Dallas when a lady at the table next to us put on this awesome hat. Having the camera with me, I quickly went to work to get some shots.  It turns out it was a birthday celebration for their grandma. She got a great kick out of me taking the photos which turned into this delightful shot.
I can’t remember for sure, but I don’t believe that any one at their table was taking pictures.
I pulled out my iPad and the camera connection kit, imported the photos onto the iPad, and was showing the photos to my colleagues. Â I was offering to e-mail them the photos when one of them pulled out an iPad. Â I asked them to hand it to me and I’d do the whole import thing right on the their iPad and won’t even have to e-mail it. Â After handing the iPad back she started showing grandma the photos who looked on the edge of tears.
Anyway, I don’t think my words are adequately conveying the joy that I added to their evening just by being there with simple technology and being willing to share.  It was pretty awesome.
Then when we done eating, they also shared some pink lemonade birthday cake with us. mmmMMMmm cake.
I don’t need no one to tell me about heaven, I look at my daughter, and I believe.

Today is Dinah’s first birthday. As cliched as it sounds, it doesn’t seem like that long. I have no idea where the time went. In the past year she’s gained over ten pounds and gotten quite a few inches longer.
Its a milestone in her life, and in mine and Sarah’s as well. All three of us have survived the year and are happy as we can be. I’m really not sure which is more shocking, her making it or Sarah and I making it.
There’s been “rough times” in the past year that involved Dinah not sleeping through the night and us being up (usually as a result of illness.) But that’s as bad as its been, and that’s really not all that bad. All in all we’ve been blessed with a happy, healthy, and friendly daughter.
We’ll have a birthday party, cake, a smash cake, all that fun stuff planned for today.
